Behaviour and belonging
Positive relationships help children understand feelings and live well together.

Children thrive when they feel that they belong. We create consistent, caring environments where feelings are accepted, expectations are clear and children are helped to build the skills behind positive behaviour.
Connection comes first
Practitioners respond calmly and respectfully, helping children feel safe before guiding them through a difficult moment. We look beyond the behaviour to consider communication, development, tiredness, change or unmet needs.
Skills for life together
- Naming and expressing feelings
- Waiting, sharing and taking turns
- Listening to others and noticing their needs
- Solving small conflicts with adult support
- Developing confidence, empathy and self-control
Clear and age-appropriate boundaries
Simple, consistent boundaries protect children and the group. We explain what is expected, model helpful choices and notice positive behaviour. We do not use humiliation, threats or physical punishment.
Partnership with families
If a pattern of behaviour needs additional support, we talk openly with parents and agree a consistent approach. Where useful, and with appropriate involvement from families, we may seek guidance from relevant professionals.
