Nursery days involve painting, water, sand, food, gardening and outdoor exploration. Please choose comfortable clothing that can cope with active and sometimes messy play.
Comfortable, practical clothing
Clothing should allow your child to move freely and participate confidently. We recommend:
Comfortable, washable layers
Trousers or skirts with simple fastenings
Clothes your child can begin to manage independently
Secure, closed-toe shoes or trainers
Clearly named coats, shoes and accessories
Please avoid precious or difficult-to-clean clothing. Even with aprons and careful supervision, paint, mud and other materials may leave stains.
Helping children become independent
Simple clothing makes it easier for children to practise dressing and toileting. Elasticated waists and manageable fastenings can be particularly helpful.
Please avoid braces, complicated belts and all-in-one outfits where possible. Long cords, dangling accessories and unsuitable footwear can also become caught during active play.
What to keep at nursery
Please provide a clearly named bag containing a complete change of clothes, including:

Trousers, leggings or skirt
Underwear
Socks
Younger children and those toilet training may require more than one change. Please check the bag regularly and replace items as your child grows or the weather changes.
Dressing for the weather
Children benefit from outdoor experiences throughout the year, so please send suitable clothing for the day.
In warmer weather, provide lightweight clothing that covers the shoulders and a named sun hat. Apply suitable sun protection before nursery and follow the nursery’s arrangements for any later application.
In colder or wet weather, provide warm layers and a waterproof coat. The nursery team can advise whether your child should also bring named wellington boots.
Naming belongings
Please clearly label every item with your child’s name, including coats, hats, bags, shoes and spare clothing. Many children own similar items, and clear labels help us return belongings quickly.
If your child has sensory, physical or medical needs that affect clothing, please speak with their Key Person so that we can agree an appropriate approach.
